I started focusing on what I ate and stopped counting calories in January. I have lost 30 pounds so far. I eat no flour, no sugar (except for what is in dark chocolate), no commercially raised meat (it is poison, really if you research it), lots of yams, eggs, seeds (rarely nuts), kale, fish etc.

I don’t subscribe to paleo, south beach, etc. Why bother? Eat naturally and lose weight, gain health, etc. No need to count calories. When my doctor asked me how I lost it all I told him and he said, but seeds have a lot of calories! This is the same dipstick who begged me to go on medifast. Enough said about our physicians in general.

    Happy eating.

Excellent analysis, Katherine!!! Being a public health professional myself, I find your points very well stated and your conclusions are flawless. Keep sending these periodical information factsheets, please. they are very useful indeed.

I have to agree with you. It’s how people eat potatoes here.
In many European countries, Ireland being one of them, people used to eat a lot of potatoes and were never fat. In America people are fat because they eat potatoes the way you described it, fried along with junk food, and because they are extremely sedentary.

  • Nice article Katherine! So often we only hear what the media wants us to believe but adding in a more rounded view puts everything into perspective. Keep up the good work!
